Josh was raised with horses the
same as many people were. Some go on to enjoy these animals thru
out their lives others are happy to leave them behind. Josh does
not fit into either of these categories. He does not simply enjoy
these incredible animals, he “gets them”. He has an
understanding of what it is they want us to know. What Josh will
tell you is that “softness is a life style” and those that have
taken this to heart will tell you this is truth. Dr. Deb Bennett
refers to this as the "deeper art, and the greater way.”
Nine years ago he went to a Dr.
Deb Bennett clinic and she watched him simply having fun on a
horse. She saw something there that was not the usual and
suggested that he go and see a couple of fellas that he could
learn much from. The first was a gentleman named Tom Dorrence.
Josh went to his clinic meeting the second person in
this journey. From there Dr. Deb sent him to a man named
Harry Whitney, which would be the beginning of a life long
friendship. Josh traveled with Harry on summers and occasionally
taking a semester off university to learn more from this amazing
horseman. What these people have shared with Josh is priceless.
He has not however become a young Harry. He has taken what all of
these people shared with him as well as what he knows within
himself to become as individual as they are. At the age of 21 he
began doing clinics on his own.
Josh has been having an
incredible journey meeting folks that are interested in hearing
his thoughts on horses. His hope is that more people will come to
understand the nature of these great animals, and how working
with that nature, instead of against it, enhances every aspect of
horsemanship.
Josh continues to learn from those already in
his life as well to search out others he can learn from,
expanding his knowledge base. It is not a competition to see who
is the best or who knows the most. Rather a responsibility to
share what he knows to be true; there by attempting to improve
the quality of life of this gift we call the horse.
